Roja Ebrahimi

Roja Ebrahim, PhD, in History and Philosophy of Architecture (University of Cagliari, Italy) is a translator and scholar. Her study on The origin of visual symbolism in Islamic architecture of 7th to 10th centuries as compared to western visual culture awarded her a fully funded scholarship to University of Cagliari, where she was presented with the Juries’ Honorary Diploma for the best research in the field in 2017.

In 2002, while studying Industrial Design at Iran’s Science and Technology University, Roja traveled to Italy to continue her education at The University of Cagliari. Upon completion of her undergraduate studies in Civil Engineering-Architecture, she served as Scientific Coordinator and collaborator at number of renowned festivals and conferences such as International Architecture Festival – Festarch (Perugia and Cagliari for RCS Media group, and Abitare Magazine), and Malik Cultural Association (with Laura Pisu and Dr. Barbara Cadeddu). In 2010, Dr. Ebrahimi was awarded the Autonomous Region of Sardinia Award for Foreigner Students, and a year later she completed her MA in Civil Engineering-Architecture, from University of Cagliari, where her thesis, “Point, Word, Image” was conferred the 110/110 Cum Laude. Her educational research includes certificates and diplomas from number of other institutions including Università per Stranieri di Perugia, Pontificia Facoltà Teologica della Sardegna. She also participated such courses as Shahrnush Parsipur’s Creative Writing, Dr.Andrea Oppo’s Philosophical Hermeneutics: “The Meaning of Poetry: Nietzsche and Heidegger” and Mehrangiz Kar’s Human Rights and Labor (Tavaana Civic Society, Human Rights and Labor (DRL) at the US Department of State). Her teaching experiences include Faculty of Political Sciences, and Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering and Architecture (University of Cagliari), and Cultural association of dal-al-aman (Cagliari).

As a professional translator of Persian literature, Dr. Ebrahimi has been commissioned by Scriptum S.R.L Translation Agency in Rome, and Francesco Brioschi Editore in Milan. Her published translations include Nelle stanze della soffitta (man va otagh hay zir-e shirvani) and I giorni che non ho vissuto (hichvaght). Upon her migration to the U.S. in 2017, Dr. Ebrahimi, began the extensive project of translating a collection of Dario Fo and Franca Rame’s plays. Rabeteh-ye Baz-e Zana Shohari (The Open Couple) is the first of these series. In 2018 she joined FCI Theatre division as playwright and dramaturge. Currently, Dr. Ebrahimi serves as Artistic Director for Free Culture Invisible LLC (FCI) in New York.
