Monthly Film Festival Brings “Invisible” International Film Premiers To Capital District
Festival Cinema Invisible (FCI), an independent, non-profit organization based in Upstate New York will present a monthly series of international film events at Proctor’s Theatre that will culminate with a three-day festival in March of 2015. A key differentiation of the FCI festival from other international film festivals is that many of the films, in addition to never having been screened in the US, have never been officially screened in their home countries. The previous FCI Festival that ran in June of 2014 at Proctors, featured over 40 Iranian films that were either world premiers, national premiers or regional premiers most of which had never screened inside Iran either.
The film series will kick off on Thursday September 18th at 7pm with a cultural event that will highlight Persian cinema, food and music. The evening will begin with a premier screening of Yassimin Maleknasr’s 1995 directorial debut, Common Plight (a tense drama that will appeal to fans of Woody Allen films like Interiors or September). That screening will be followed by a Q and A discussion with the film’s producer (and FCI President) Mahmood Karimi-Hakak, Persian tea and desert from Persian Bite in Schenectady and a performance of instrumental international music from local acoustic guitar duo, KoriSoron featuring Farzad Golpeygani and Scott Collins will follow.
Admission to the event is $10.
